The potential distribution of Pythium insidiosum in the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, Virginia
Abstract
This study modeled the potential distribution of Pythium insidiosum, the causative agent of pythiosis, within the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia. Using ecological niche modeling with environmental variables (water temperature, salinity, land cover), the study identified suitable habitat areas for P. insidiosum and assessed infection risk to Chincoteague ponies and other wildlife in the refuge.
